Cardiovascular exercise intensity can be determined by calculating what is called target heart range. To determine your personal target heart rate, subtract your age from 220. This indicates your predicted maximum heart rate level.

1. Low to moderate-intensity exercise = 60% to 75% of your predicted maximum heart rate level.
2. High-intensity exercise = 80% to 90% of your predicted maximum heart rate level.
